If you have lived here more than a summer, you already know the shape of August in Scarsdale. Pool in the afternoon, market on Sunday, one more Thursday concert, then school supplies. What is different this year is which of those pieces is doing the work of holding the month together.
For most of the last decade, the pool complex was the center of gravity from July 4 through Labor Day. In 2026, the Sunday-morning stretch of Chase Road has quietly taken the job. If you plan your last three weeks of summer around that hour and radiate outward, you will see more of the Village, spend less time in the car, and eat better while you are at it.
The Sunday anchor, and why it feels different this year
The Farmers Market itself is the same institution it has been for years. The Scarsdale Farmers Market features regional farmers and locally made foods in downtown Scarsdale on Spencer Place at Chase Road on Sundays from May through November, open 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The 2026 season runs Sundays from May 3 through November 22.
What changed is what happens around the produce tables. The Scarsdale Business Alliance now runs a weekly programming layer called Destination Scarsdale alongside the market, with SBA member businesses hosting wellness demos, family activities, and sampling. Because the market operator, Down to Earth Markets, has an exclusivity clause with the Village, the SBA participants cannot sell on site. They hand out samples, coupons, and giveaways instead. That distinction is the reason the block feels different than it did in 2023. Sunday morning on Chase is no longer a produce errand you can knock out in twenty minutes. It behaves more like a neighborhood block party that happens to include peaches.
A few practical points that matter more in August than in June, when the novelty was doing the work:
- Free Sunday parking is available at the Christie Place Garage at 64 East Parkway. Street spaces in the market footprint are closed Sundays from 7 AM to 3 PM for vendor setup and breakdown, so drive straight to the garage.
- The stretch of the market that gets the longest lines by 10:30 is the prepared-food side. If you have a specific vendor in mind, arrive by 9:15.
- Chase Park sits one block off the market. Between browsing and coffee, it is the place to park a stroller or a folding chair.
Thursday, August 14: the last Westchester Band night
The summer concert series in Chase Park runs Thursday evenings at 8 PM, and 2026's final installment lands on Thursday, August 14. The Village has flagged this Thursday, August 14, at 8 PM in Chase Park as the final installment of the Westchester Band for this season, and residents are being encouraged to come out for the community tradition.
Two things worth planning:
- The band draws a real crowd on the closing night. Walk from home if you can, or park at Christie Place and cut through the Village Center.
- Bring a chair. The lawn at Chase Park fills quickly, and the sightlines from the perimeter are worse than the ones from ten feet inside the crowd.
If you have out-of-town guests visiting the weekend after, this is the local moment to build the evening around. It also pairs well with a late dinner, which brings us to the next block.
Where to eat when the market winds down
The market ends at 1:30. The Thursday concert ends by 9. Both windows have become natural meal moments, and the walkable Village Center has a stronger sit-down bench than it did three years ago. A quick map of the current lineup:

The point of the table is not that these are the only four options. It is that in August, when reservations tighten around the fireworks aftermath and back-to-school dinners, knowing which door to try first saves the evening.
Two things to route around this month
August in Scarsdale is also, quietly, a construction month. Two projects are worth knowing about because they will change how you drive across the Village.
Summer paving. The Village's 2026 summer road paving program began in late July, with road milling, surface preparation, and paving operations running on various Village streets through mid-August, weather permitting. The Village Engineering Department at 914-722-1106 is the number to call if a specific street matters to your commute. In practice, plan an extra five to eight minutes on any weekday morning through the middle of the month, and expect at least one detour to catch you off guard.
Wayside Lane. Beginning August 13, Wayside Lane is closed between Post Road and Locust Avenue for a pedestrian improvement project, with reopening anticipated Friday, August 15, weather permitting. The project extends the existing sidewalk on Wayside Lane and connects it to Post Road, which will create a safer walking route, especially for students. If your usual route into the Village cuts across Wayside, take Post Road for those two days.
Neither of these is the kind of thing that shows up on a portal or an Instagram roundup. They are the small friction points that separate residents from visitors on a given Tuesday.
The community layer under all of it
One community program is worth folding into your Sunday-market routine if you have not already. Through a partnership with Feeding Westchester, the Village collected 3,400 pounds of food during its recent food drive, enough to provide approximately 2,833 meals for those in need. If you are already routing through the Village Center on a weekend, the drive is a low-effort way to add a few items to a trip you were making anyway.
Two other institutional notes for the calendar-keepers. Dawn Donovan was appointed Scarsdale's next Village Treasurer effective August 3, 2026, following more than 35 years of public sector finance experience, including more than 15 years as Town Comptroller and HR Manager for the Town of Eastchester. That transition matters less to a resident's weekend than to a household budgeting for the next tax cycle, but it is the kind of change that shapes how the Village runs behind the scenes.
